Rules of the Way

By Eddie Exum

Well, as Caesar was told, "Beware of the Ides of March."

-----------------

Our re-organization in Maintenance of Way included the abolishment of my position in Centennial Yard. I have now bumped in line with my seniority on to Gang 2213. This gang is currently doing flagging duty for the construction of the expansion of Mesquite Intermodal Facility.

Thanks to Dennis Cude for all the informational help on how the job operates.

Thanks for aiding me in knowledge, adjustment and for the friendliness of all Mesquite Personnel.

Special Thanks to MTO Gary Ashley, Yardmasters Buddy Gober, Stan Potter, and Randy Thomas.

An Immediate acquaintance was Conductor John Holt (with 33 years of service) of Switch Crews of MQ51. He and his crew and the other men on MQ52 and MQ61 are a very helpful and friendly bunch of guys. These are really likable people.

-----------------

The personnel changes for Maintenance of Way are just beginning. It is proposed that we will be reducing personnel by four people and that we will change our reporting sites for work.

Some of the folks now reporting in Grand Prairie will report to Dallas at Mockingbird Yard.

New Gangs are to be added at Ney Yard, Browder Yard and Mesquite Intermodal.

We also have some new supervisors in place and territorial changes for others already here.

-----------------

We received another taste of winter this week. Our peach tree is in bloom like last year. This time it didn't stay cold long enough to damage it as it did last year.

I hope that was it for cold weather this year.

-----------------

We are only a few days away from official spring. It is Saint Patrick's Day as I write this. I remembered to wear something green. Did you?

-----------------

The year is moving right along and it is almost Easter. Pretty weather and spring fever -- there has to be an oxymoron in there somewhere.

-----------------

Wishing you a Happy Easter and Remembrance.

Eddie is track inspector at Mesquite Intermodal Facility.
