Rules of the Way

By Eddie Exum

On some days, it is just nice to be around. This is one of them.

-------------------

Today Mr. Stan Hanquist was here observing the progress of the Mesquite Intermodal Expansion Project. He wasn't quite sure that I remembered him until we discussed a joke I told him about nine years ago. (For further information on this topic, see Larry Chamberlin.)

With the weather co-operating and the ground not being so wet, the dirt work and ditching for the Intermodal Expansion is beginning to move pretty fast.

There is a great deal of work here still to be done. Some of these items are: much more drainage pipe, electrical tower removal, wiring for the new facility and so much concrete to be poured that the contractor will have an on-site mixing plant.

We have a couple of switches unloaded here now, but there is much more track material to be used. No track construction has begun yet.

We now have a headquartered section gang in Mesquite. The gang consist of Foreman is D.E. "Ike" Pierce, Trackman/Driver D.W. "David" Ballard, Trackman C.R. Acy. We also have a welding gang with Welder J.P. "Jim" Reed and Welder's Helper D.L. "Church" Wright.

-------------------

You West-enders just remember when those pigs come by you that many of them were loaded or switched at Mesquite.

Well, I have more track than I know what to do with and I'm out of time. Remember, school will be out before we know it, so watch out for children. Eddie is track inspector at Mesquite Intermodal Facility.
