My Toy Soldiers

When I was about eight years old, I wanted to play "War" with my toy lead soldiers. I dug some trenches and gathered up some Bull Durham tobacco sacks to make sand bags. Then I got a bright idea. I got my older brother's Bee-Bee gun and decided to shot at the lead soldiers.

After several shots, I took a look at what I had done. Half of my soldiers had their arms, hands or heads shot off.

It was then I figured out this wasn't such a good idea, since the soldiers cost me 10-cents at Leonard Brothers Department Store. I was very upset at what I had done, and didn't shoot any more of them.

I still have the soldiers that lived through the battle and the wounded ones too. Here is a picture of them. By the way, I still have the Bull Durham sacks too.
