Annual U.P. - Cub Scout Poster Contest

Operation Lifesaver Poster Contest The results are in for the 1998 Poster Contest. Fort Worth area Cub Scouts are the undisputed winners.

With the message of Rail Grade Crossing Safety delivered, there were no losers. Everyone was a winner.

The guest presenters for 1998 were Superintendent Joe Whalen, Regional Manager of Safety for the Federal Railroad Administration David Visney, Director of Public Safety and Transportation for the Union Pacific Richard Reynolds and Locomotive Engineer and Operation Lifesaver Presenter David Martinez. Chairman for this year was Locomotive Engineer and Scouter Dennis Mitchell. Photographer was Locomotive Engineer and Manager of Operating Practice Charles Airhart.

Tiger Cub Winners: Ty Brown (1st Place), Brady Brown (2nd Place), Blake Yockum (3rd Place) and Travis Kendall (Honorable Mention), with Fort Worth Service Unit Superintendent Joe Whalen.

Wolf Cub Winners were Cavan Larnard (1st Place), John McQuien (2nd Place), and Nicholas Gilchrist (3rd Place) with Federal Railroad Administration Regional Manager of Safety David Visney.

Bear Cub Winners were Johnathan Zimmerman (1st Place), Shane Vergano (2nd Place) and Ilia Khan (3rd Place)(not in picture) with Union Pacific Director of Public Safety Richard Reynolds.

Webelos Winners were Alex Hart (1st Place), Nolan Capps (2nd Place) and Alex Pierce (3rd Place) with Locomotive Engineer David Martinez.

Cub Scout Operation Lifesaver Patch - This is a representation of the 1998 patch given to each Cub Scout entering a poster in the Union Pacific annual contest.

Prizes awarded: 3rd Prize: UP Railroad Lantern; 2nd Prize: UP Gear Bag; 1st Prize: Union Pacific HO Gauge Model Train Set. Other prizes were U.P. Caps, O.L. Caps and pins furnished by Dave Visney, and Leatherman Tools furnished by Richard Reynolds. I want to take this opportunity to congratulate all of the winners and to thank all the people that helped make this program such a huge success.

Dennis is a locomotive engineer at Fort Worth.
