Royce H. "Bill" Ezell, 88, a retired locomotive engineer for the Texas & Pacific Railroad, died Wednesday, March 25, 1998, at a Fort Worth nursing home.
Funeral was held 2 p.m. Saturday at Laurel Land Chapel of the Chimes in Fort Worth, with burial in Laurel Land Memorial Park.
Royce Ezell was born March 23, 1910, in Woodbury, Texas. Bill was a conductor on the Interurban Rail Line in Dallas in the late 1930s before joining the Texas & Pacific Railroad. He worked for 46 years as a Texas & Pacific Railroad engineer until his retirement.
He was proud to say "I was one of the engineers on the T&P Locomotive Number 610" before it was retired.
He was a 55- year member of the Royal Arch Masons of Texas, Tarrant Chapter No. 416, and the Royal and Select Masters of Texas, Council No. 349, member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Everman Chapter No. 624, and was a lifetime honorary member of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers, Division No. 187. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Forest Hill.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Bertie Lee Ezell.
Survivors: Sons, Royce Ezell Jr. of Forest Hill, Robert Ezell of Sugar Land, and Ronald Ezell of Boerne; daughters, Peggie Herring of Aledo, Linda Neilson of Williamsburg, Va., and Cyndia Theabeau of Harve de Grace, Md.; 13 grandchildren; and seven great- grandchildren.
