Larry Breeden Breaks NASA Records

By Charles Airhart

NASA is an association for strength athletes. The acronym stands for Natural Athlete Strength Association. Larry Breeden (Director of Train Operating Practices Compliance)in Spring, met in competition with several hundred strength athletes from across the state on May 17, 1998 at Garland, Texas.

Larry was competing in the bench press in the forty plus age group. He started his lifting with 410 pounds. and lifted it cleanly. He then told the officials that he was ready to attempt to break the standing American record and go for a lift of 457 pounds. This enormous weight did not deter Larry. He easily set the new American record for the Bench Press.

Then to everyone's amazed delight, He told the officials to set the weight at 473 pounds, and the next thing you know, he broke his own record that he had just set and now holds the new American record.

Larry's lovely wife Marilyn and his very happy two year old son (well, nearly two) Austin were there along with several Union Pacific employees to witness these prodigious feats.

Larry said that he thinks he might be able to break the 500 lb. barrier at the national meet in Oklahoma City this fall. As if this wasn't enough Larry was then named the Outstanding Lifter in the tournament for lifting a combined weight of 1340 pounds.

Congratulations Larry, I guess this is your way of getting something off your chest.
