GREAT SAFE WORK! What more can be said? We did a great job in working safe for the month of May. We went incident free; that's the second time this year. The first time was in February. And as proud as we are that this happened, again I say there could be no one more proud than you, because you are the one that did not get hurt.

It should give us all a great feeling and a lot of pride to be able to say we have the safest place to work.

When the figures all come in, I think the Fort Worth Service Unit will be either number 1 or 2 on the system. This says a lot for us. I do know we have fewer reportables than any other service unit, but man-hours usually keeps us down.

We are proving that everyone on this service unit can work safe and be efficient too. We are keeping focused, thinking, and working safe. It is the best thing that can happen to show the world that we care about our selves, our families, our co-workers and our friends.

I guess that most of you know by this time that our Superintendent, Joe Whalen is leaving us and going to Little Rock. We will miss Joe. I enjoyed working with him and I certainly appreciate the help he gave me. I can say Joe is very big on Safety. He worked hard to help us have a good safe working place. He'll be missed for this.

He is going to a place that has historically a good safety record and is the only service unit ahead of us now. With his input, his knowledge, and work toward safety, it will now be even harder to overtake Little Rock.

We wish you well Joe, but you will feel our wind when we go by you in safety, we have the people here on the Fort Worth Service Unit who have what it takes to get first place and stay there.

I've made my rounds to all the shifts in Fort Worth, Arlington, and Dallas. There were a lot of good meetings and I enjoyed doing these meetings. They were really positive. I like these meetings, not only for getting to talk and work safety with you, but I like to visit with you and in some cases shoot the bull.

I have been told that I am doing a good job in Safety. When I am told this, I quickly say that it is not me doing the good job, it is all of us. When I started out on this job, I said then that, "I can't do this job, it takes team work." That is what has happened. All of us working in our various ways are making a great SAFETY TEAM.

Thanks, keep it going. Let's show everybody we can go two months in a row without an incident.

Gene is Safety Manager for the Fort Worth Service Unit.
