Conductor Windel E. "Wimpy" Morgan hired out on the old Rock Island on March 3, 1969 and retired on the 15th of July, 1998.

Wimpy said, "My last trip was on the 15 of July, from Big Spring to Fort Worth. My Engineer was Kim Hicks. The timekeeper sent my last timeslip back to me with a note saying, 'I thought you might want to have this.'"

"I've railroaded for 29-1/2 years with the Rock Island, the O-K-T, the Katy and the UP. I broke all of them but the UP. I decided I better retire before I busted it, too." he joked.

"My Great Grandpa was a Conductor on the Rock Island out of Little Rock, Arkansas.

"I was born out west of Temple, Oklahoma, April 7, 1932, and graduated from high school at Commanche, Oklahoma.

"Before I started railroading, I worked 14 years at General Dynamics. I have really enjoyed the railroad.

"Some of the best people in the world work here. I've enjoyed working with all these guys," he paused a moment, and added, "Aw, there was a few bad apples, but they have them in church, too." Wimpy lives at: 3548 Kingsbury Avenue Richland Hills, TX 76110
