Melissa Henderson, 13 recently received the Silver Star
Award in Girl Scouting. It is the highest award given to
Cadette girl scouts.
In order to achieve this award a scout must earn three special interest patches, the Dreams to Reality Patch, The Cadette Leadership Award, the Cadette Girl Scout Challenge Pin and complete a Silver Award project.
To meet the above requirements, Melissa spent over 120 hours doing community service involving Drug Awareness and helping with Special Olympics and Program Aide Service which consisted of helping with girl scout recruitment and special events for younger girl scouts.
As part of her training to participate in Program Aide, Melissa became Red Cross CPR Certified.
She has been a girl scout for six years, and is the daughter of Locomotive Engineer Roderick Henderson of Mineola.
