Renovation, Repair, and Protection
In many areas of the country, new growth has been occurring in older, previously developed
urban areas. As part of this trend, buildings are being renovated and resuming their
former uses, and in other cases, they are being converted to completely new uses.
These changes often necessitate structural modifications to accommodate new uses or
to comply with current building codes. Building redevelopment, natural disasters
like the devastating Fort Worth tornado, and other unforeseen events which occasionally
occur have led to strong demand for structural renovation, repair, and protection
services. Among the techniques which will be addressed in this program are external
post-tensioning, fiber-reinforced plastic composite strengthening, plate bonding, and
section enlargement.
