Program: LBJ Updates and Design Implementation
The
21 mile long I.H. 635/LBJ Freeway (LBJ) corridor encompasses one of the most highly
developed commercial and residential areas in north Texas and with average daily traffic
of over 200,000 vehicles per day, it is one of the busiest urban freeways in the nation. With completion of its planning process and
approval of the locally preferred alternative (LPA), TxDOT is proceeding toward design of
the various segments of the corridor. Many of
the Dallas Branch members could potentially contribute to design of this corridor. Our May speaker has been involved in all phases of
the LBJ planning process from its inception to the current implementation of the design
process and will update us on upcoming activities. The focus of the
presentation will be in three parts:
q West
Section (Luna Road to US 75) - Project Description and Updates on Drainage Study
& Geotechnical Investigation
q Managed
Lanes - Value Pricing & Investment Grade Traffic and Revenue Study
q Implementation
- Comprehensive Development Agreement (CDA) to Implement the Design/Build Process
Speaker:
Matthew E. MacGregor, P.E., LBJ Project Manager, TxDOT
Mr. MacGregor
received a BS in civil engineering from Purdue University in 1984 and started his
professional career in TxDOTs Dallas District that same year. In 1986, he moved to the North Central Project
Office and was Project Manager for reconstruction of the North Central Expressway section
from Monticello to Downtown.
In 1993, Mr.
MacGregor was named LBJ Project Manager and has steered the planning and design of LBJ
Improvements into the 21st Century. During
this period, he has completed a successful public involvement program to achieve the LPA,
develop design schematics and a value engineering study that supported the tunnel concept
for the West Section. In addition, he has
been involved at the grass roots efforts to develop managed lanes concept in Texas and
around the nation. He has contributed to
various research teams to foster detailed investigation of the managed lanes.
He was recently
named the Director of the Dallas Districts newly formed Tollway Office
to oversee the planned LBJ West Section CDA and to initiate analysis and potential
development of additional tollroads in the Dallas District.
He will continue to serve as the LBJ Project Manger.
