See Map Program: SMU Civil EngineeringThe Story Behind the Rebuilding of a Program and Texas Section Update and 2003-2004 Officer Installation Undergraduate Mustang civil engineers, members of a species many thought had been driven to extinction, have been spotted on the SMU campus this fall for the first time in more than ten years. These sightings follow those of graduate students, who began reappearing in 2002. The return of civil engineering had been a goal of the dean of SMUs engineering school since he assumed his post in August 2000, and that goal has been realized. Dr. Stephen Szygenda will join us at our October luncheon to offer his insights about how SMU has resurrected its civil engineering program and the future plans for it. The Dallas Branchs Engineering Management Committee will also sponsor a seminar after the luncheon that will feature SMUs Dr. Richard Barr, who will talk about the schools engineering management program.
In conjunction with the presentation about SMU civil engineering, ASCE Texas Section President-Elect Gary Struzick will give the Branch an update about the Texas Section. After his address, Mr. Struzick will help install the 2003-2004 officers of the Dallas Branch.
