Program: DFW Airports New Capital Development
Program
DFW International Airports central location within the United States puts it in
within 4 hours of 95 percent of the countrys population. Airline traffic is growing
worldwide, and DFWs share of it will only continue to increase in the future. In
order to meet the demands of this tremendous growth now and in the future, the airport is
planning a $2.5 billion Capital Development Program(CDP). This program, which is now in
the design stage, will generate an additional $34 billion in economic impact and an
additional 77,000 jobs over the next 15 years. In addition to the CDP, the airport plans
to spend several billion more dollars over the next 20 years to expand other passenger and
cargo facilities.
Highlights of the CDP include a new
international terminal, Terminal D, a new automated people mover system, a new runway, the
extension of three existing runways, and a new northwest holding apron. Terminal D, which
will consolidate all of the airports international arrivals, will contain 23 gates
in a building with approximately 1.8 million square feet of space. It will have separate
arrival and departure levels and a centralized federal inspection facility.
The automated people mover
will be a two-car, secured transport system that travels bi-directionally. It is expected
to be able to move passengers between the most distant terminal stations in less than nine
minutes.
CDP includes extension of
three existing runways, construction of a northwest holding apron and construction of the
new eighth runway.
For more information see the D/FW's Website.
