My 1999 Dakota has Seat Dandruff!

My Dakota is two months old and all the while I have had trouble keeping the carpet clean under the driver's seat. Small white specks of something keep appearing. I vacuum and a few days later they reappear.

I got curious and looked closer at the specks (dandruff). It was small bits of sponge rubber. Apparantly the dandruff was comming from the Dakota's seat bottom. Here is a picture of the floor of my truck.

This picture was taken after a recent cleaning. Maybe I should have tried HeadnShoulders before going to the trouble of removing the seat.

Once the removed seat was upside down on my tail gate the problem was very obvious. There are two areas in the rear of the seat frame in which the edge is so sharp it cuts the seat cushion's foam rubber every time you sit down. See the circled areas below.

This area is so sharp you can cut yourself. I am a do-it-yourself kind of guy so elected to repair it myself. Here is what I did.

If you have dandruff on your Dakota and think Dodge should correct it, by all means show them these pictures and ask them to correct the problem. I showed the dandruff to my service manager and he ask me to schedule an appointment and they would remove the seat and see what the problem was. He was very nice but I declined and repaired it myself. I did infact repair both seats. I feel if it is left unchecked it will actually cut a deep hole in the seat cushion and could lead to upholstery failure. My driver's cushion was almost bad enough to ask for a replacement but I glued the bad spot rather than approach the dealer with it.

I would very much like an email back if your dandruff problem has a different out come.
