Court of Honor Ceremony

June 1, 1998

Troop 285's Spring Court of Honor was held on June 1, 1998 at the Sombra Del Monte Christian Church. The Court of Honor was opened by Senior Patrol Leader Ollie C.

Induction of our new scouts took place first, with Austin D., Kyle H., James H., Mike J., Jason G., Joel G., John H., Nick H., Charlie M., and John W., being welcomed as Scout, and Steve R. as Second Class.

Several sets of merit badges, year pins, meritorious service and special event attendance awards were passed out.

The Wolverines received the Honor Patrol award, so they will be eating first at Long Term and receiving various other perks for their high level of participation in the life of Troop 285.

Patches for the Fifty Miler hike through Paria Canyon in Utah were passed out to all participants, and a few "war stories" were shared about "quicksand", geography, and van breakdowns. The scouts receiving the patches were: Andrew B., Curtis H., Derek M., Danny M., Tommy M., Daine O., Dan P., and Jerry S. The scouters also receiving the award were: Andy Braman, Mike Cox, Christian Mondick and Wayne Prentice.

Congratulations go to Mike S., who received his God and Me at this Court of Honor, and James W., who got two warrant awards for service as a Cub Pack den chief.

The highlight of the evening was the Eagle Scout rank earned by Ryan Teak, Troop 285's one hundred forty-fourth Eagle! A special speaker, Lt. Col. (Ret.) Jack Shaw of the US Air Force, gave the recognition speech which covered some of the lessons learned in Scouting that served him well in the service and as a pilot with Delta Airlines.
