Scout Sunday 2000 and Spring Good Turn Day

Scout Sunday fell on February 6 in 2000. Troop 285 observed this by attending a special service at Sombra Del Monte Christian Church in which we played a large part. The highlights of the service were the Eagle Awards ceremonies for Danny and Tom Maguire, Eagles 151 and 152 from Troop 285. For the first time in our troop's history, brothers were awarded Eagle ranks on the same day!

Here's a photo collection from the service and the Eagle ceremony.

Following the service, Troop 285 proudly displayed seven Scouting skills for the church members and parents to review. The top displays won awards -

The Ship's boats were docked at the curb outside.
On February 4 and 5, Troop 285 gave of their time on behalf of our charter organization, Sombra Del Monte Christian Church. As well as having some fun and enjoying ice cream treats and sodas, we got in three 3-hour shifts of good work fixing and cleaning up for our sponsors. Here's a list of some of the jobs we tackled:

Stripping and waxing the gymnasium floor
Sanding and varnishing the oak floors of Lohman Hall
Repairing dings and repainting the ceiling tile in the building
Painting walls and trim in the gymnasium
Raking and bagging leaves
Painting no-parking-along-curb areas
Pouring concrete to seal the foundation
Making and installing two handrails
Repairing several folding tables
Cleaning the kitchen and waxing the floor

Deepest thanks go to the three Scouts leading the work crews: Austin D., Ryan G., and Tim W.
