2001 Piedra Lisa Prephike

This is a prephike for the Troop 285 50-miler at Canyonlands National Park. We hiked the Piedra Lisa Trail on March 10,2001 under snowy conditions. We met at the church at 8:15 a.m. and were on the trail by 9:00. Most of the trail was covered with about an inch of snow, which turned to mud quickly after we started hiking. About half way up to the saddle, Chris S. and his dad caught up to us while we were taking a break. From there we continued on to the top of the saddle where we agreed that we would hike over to some rocks about half a mile away and eat lunch. After lunch we took a slow hike back to the top of the saddle and went fast to get back down the mountain so we could go home. On the trip back to the church we all fell asleep, except Mr. Nigrey who was driving.

Here we are at Piedra-Lisa at 9:00in the morning. Donnie seems to be the only one who is awake enough to smile, while Ian and Mr. Cook are hiding.

Here are some signs of old age. Mr. Nigrey and Mr. Cook are falling behind after the first mile on the first real uphill and are taking a break.

Here is a latecomer who decided to sleep in and catch up to us on the trail, Chris S.

"Lunch is over" declares Mr. Nigrey as he towers over the group to pose for a picture.

We are almost back now and the mud and snow we hiked through is quite obvious when looking at Ian's pants (middle).

Finally back! As the group drops their packs on the ground and waits for Mr. Nigrey to open his vehicle. Now we can all go home and get some sleep.
