In conjunction with our Explorer friends, Ship 14, it was time to set up and sell!
Friday evening we worked from 6PM to 9PM setting up dining flies for shade, then moving merchandise to tables under the flies and price-tagging all the stuff. Many thanks to Dorothy Parrish and Miz Ellie Cox for the hard work on pricing!
Friday night three grannies camped out with the merchandise, even though our storage lot is all behind chain-link fence. Turns out that the main thing we had to protect the rummage from was the early arrivers, who started showing up at 6AM (an hour early) wanting to start looking for treasures.
Saturday was a great day for the sale. With items ranging from an '88 Ford Thunderbird and a 16 foot motor boat all the way down to used paperbacks and purses, we had all the bases covered! Lunch (burgers, chips, cookies) and sodas were available for Scouts, grannies, and even for the customers. Although it was hot (probably 95 degrees at mid-day), we sold until about 4PM, and we still had stuff. So, it was decided to try it again on Sunday.
Sunday was another good day for a sale. By the time we closed the cash register, the Troop had cleared about $3500 and the Ship another $1500. And the proceeds are going to be well used - we're already planning to purchase new tents, cook stoves and other items for the Troop!
Many thanks go to our one and only Rick Mondick, Scoutmaster, for dreaming the dream and working the scheme to make this fantastc fundraiser possible!
