Good Turn Days, 1998

As a small token of our appreciation to Sombra Del Monte Christian Church for being our Charter Organization and providing a great meeting place and storage for Troop 285's equipment, we do a Good Turn Day each spring in which we clean up, paint, repair and tidy up the church buildings and grounds.

This year, under the organizational skills of Scout Rocky J., we worked three four-hour shifts, one on Friday evening (March 27), and two on Saturday, March 28th, 1998. Each Scout in the Troop needed to participate in one of these work shifts, or to provide their own service project proposal to the Scoutmaster for approval. In this way, Troop 285 makes sure that each Scout is actively reminded to live the Scout Slogan, "Do a Good Turn Daily." In fact, a service project is required of each Scout before he may participate in each quarterly Court of Honor.

The Good Turn Day projects this year included:

Many thanks to Mr. Paul Chavez of Paul's Custom Painting for furnishing over $150 of paint supplies and loaning the Troop his power floor buffer, which made the waxing a lot easier! Thanks also go to Mr. Kevin Clark and Mr. Lee Jones for their hard work, supervision, and advice.
