The New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology in Socorro, NM, served as the home base for a high-technology weekend for Troop 285. The places visited included:
  • The Very Large Array of radio telescopes
  • The Waldo-Graphic lead-zinc-silver underground mine (now a teaching facility)
  • The NMT Astronomy Observatory (for a really close look at Comet Hale-Bopp)
  • The EMRTC Energetic Materials Research Facility - over 100,000 acres of laboratories surrounding M Mountain
  • The NM Bureau of Minesand Mineral Resources Mineral Museum
  • Tons of basketball and other sports in the NMT gymnasium (our bunk house, too)
