This 82 y/o female presented with hematochezia which ceased after admission to the ICU. Physical exam was unremarkable except for ± increased bowel sounds and heme + stool. Colonoscopy to the cecum revealed some diverticula, but no site of hemorrage. The patient developed hematochezia again after transfer from the ICU. A GI bleeding scan showed bleeding in the colon felt to originate in the left colon. Angiography confirmed this finding and therapy with vasopressin was instituted at 0.2 u/min. Repeat angio after 30 min of therapy showed cessation of bleeding and vasopressin was continued for 24 hr at 0.1 u/min. Repeat angio was normal. Vasopressin was stopped and the patient was discharged 48 hours later with no signs of recurrent GI bleeding.
