



This 54 y/o female presented with acute onset of lower abdominal pain. There was no history of previous surgery. She was afebrile. There was mild abdominal tenderness, with increased bowel sounds and tympany. WBC - 10,200/cc³, urinalysis - unremarkable. Selected images from her abdominal/pelvic CT shown above demonstrate findings compatible with a sigmoid volvulus. The diagnosis was confirmed at surgery.
