LONE STAR

SCALE RAIDERS

The Lone Star Scale Raiders are a growing group of Texan Customizers and Collectors of 1/6th scale figures and vehicles.  About every three months we meet in or near the DFW (that's Dallas/Ft. Worth to ya non-Texans) area to stage different battle scenes from W.W.II, Korea, Vietnam, and Modern.  So far, we have focused our energies on W.W.II.  We give it three months so that those coming can gather and prepare their "forces" and "armor".

Who can be a LSSR member?  Well, anyone who attends.  You don't have to be a Texan, but it sure saves you some gas money in you live here. ;-)  There is no membership, you show up, you're initiated.  Any 1/6th scale stuff is welcome (Hasbro, SOTW, 21st Century,  Custom) except for Barbi stuff (been lucky so far ;-)).

If anyone is interested in knowing more about the LSSR, just e-mail me and I can add you to the e-mail list I am now developing.

OPERATION BITING

(THE BRUNEVAL RAID)

On the night of February 27th 1942, 120 British paratroopers, descended in the darkness, into France.   Their destination was on the French coast near a rather unremarkable house, the site of a new type of German radar.   German radar was causing unacceptable losses to British bombers so the British had to act.    They would air-drop paratroopers, and a radar technician or two,  and take all they could of the new German radar set so they could see how it operated, and thus learn how to counteract it.

German resistance was light, initially, however over one hundred troops were stationed nearby and soon the fight was on.    The British were composed of three 40-man teams, each with a different task.   One team had been dropped too far south and didn't arrive til later, but the other two did their job.  One secured the beach and cleared a path through a minefield.  The other carting away important new German technology and safely transporting it to the beach where several LCA carrying members of No 12. Commando provided cover for the paratroopers as they embarked for home.

The Lone Star Scale Raiders is once again hosting another 1:6th scale diorama in the DFW area.  The theme of the diorama will be Operation Biting, better known as the British Bruneval Raid, with the British Paratroops raiding a German guarded radar station.  This time, we will be doing the dio in stages, starting with the initial para landing and ending with the paratroops escaping via landing craft on the beach.  Authenticity is paramount.

The event will be taking place on January 18th from 9:00 a.m. till dusk in Ennis, Texas (30 minutes south of Dallas).  After the dio is finished lunch festivities will take place - most likely we'll order pizza or possibly just cook on the grill (any volunteers?).  Afterwards, a swap meet will ensue.  I should have some tables out for those to display their wares, but we might just do the cartrunk swap like before. ;-)

For those interested in getting there a little early, we will have a campout the night before.  At the campouts, we mostly work on last minute detaling of the dio site, figures and vehicles and some pre-swapmeet trading selling will be going on as well.

If anyone is interested in attending, please contact me at eklyps@flash.net and I can give you further information.  Thanks again and see you on the battlefield. :-)
