Daniel Zack Springer was born 6 January 1871 in Lexington, Lauderdale Co., Alabama to Thomas Springer and Francis A. T. "Mary" Lanier. He married Mary Alice Hamm, daughter of Augustas and Mary Ann (Tanner) Hamm 14 September 1890 in Cato, Faulkner Co., AR. They had five children together before Mary died on 25 March 1903 in Cato, Faulkner Co., AR. She is buried at the Cato Cemetery. Daniel returned to Florence Alabama and there remarried on 18 October 1903 to Mary Susan (Burks) Richardson, the daughter of Charles and Priscilla Adaline (Clemmons) Burks, the widow of William Jackson Richardson. Mary had one son, Thomas Lee Richardson, who returned with them to Cato to join the Springer family. Daniel and Mary had five children together. Dan and the family moved to Greenville, Hunt County, Texas to join two of his brothers, Will and Jacob Springer. It was there that their youngest child, Floy, was born. By 1920, they had moved to Oklahoma to purchase cheap farming land but the depression hit and they lost everything. They packed up and moved south to the black dirt country of Navarro County and lived there for several years. After they daughter, Floy died just after childbirth, they took her new born son, Charles David Williams, to raise. Dan and Mary moved to Farmers Branch, in North Dallas along with several of their now adult children. Charles David's father, Charles Edward Williams, remarried and came to take take Charles David back to Navarro County but the family doctor convinced him to leave the sick child with his grandmother. He convinced Edward that if he took the child, he would certainly die. Edward shortly after of Typhoid Fever.
Dan died at his son Frank Springer's house. That day, Ernest, Charles, Frank and others had been swimming. Charles David Williams said Dan had walked up and down the bank and was getting along very well. That night he slept with Mary and Charles. Charles said he was sleeping on one side of the bed, Mary in the middle, and Dan on the other side. Sometime during the night, Dan sat up so suddenly that he woke Charles and Mary, then he fell back in the bed dead. This was on 8 September 1946. Dan had requested to be buried back in Navarro County next to his daughter Floy at the Dresden Cemetery. Mary Springer died 28 July 1966 in Irving, Dallas Co., TX. She was laid to rest next to Dan and Floy at Dresden.
