The Jamie Story

by Darlene Musick

Jamie was from the first litter produced at Musical Shelties. Sandy and I were co\breeeders on the litter. Jamie was my first show dog and he taught me a lot. As the months flew by, Jamie went from a cute fluffy, fun loving puppy to suddenly mature and Mr. Business in the ring ready to win. My first points with Jamie came when he was 11 months old. I had put him in Bred By Exhibitor class. Now I find myself in the ring in the Bred By class with two really big time breeders. I was in awe. Patsy Edmondson was the judge (breeder judge at that) not a lot of confidience on my part that day. Jamie took charge showing his little heart out, sailing around the ring, showing Patsy what he could do. Jamie won the class, needless to say I was in shock. I was happy, never thought about I had to go back in the ring for winners. When we went in for winners, Jamie won, picking up his first two points; I was just along for the ride. Jamie and I went on to finish that Championship, Sandy picking up one of those points for us. I thank all the judges, exhibitors and friends who got me through my first show dog.

Jamie and I had a very special relationship through the years. He was my friend. I lost Jamie in a thunder storm when he was six. My family and I had gone to dog shows and a friend was looking after the dogs. Jamie did not like thunder storms. While I was gone, he got out of the yard and disappeared, never to be seen or heard from again. At first, I was angry at him, how could he leave me, then I felt guilty because I was gone when he needed me and then I felt sad, I had lost my friend, who I loved dearly. Jamie left me with many memories and one special gift, Anna, his daughter, Ch Musical Make Mine Blue, and many grand kids.
