Red Cross
Disaster Team
FUMC MC has arranged with the
American Red Cross to be designated as a short term shelter in time of local
disasters. The core team for this project is in
place. Volunteers are needed to help when we
are called by the Red Cross to open the
shelter.

Blood Drives for 2003

All Blood Drives are held in cooperation
with the Houston Blood Bank and are held in the Fellowship Hall from 8:00 a.m. until 12:30
p.m.

Upcoming Mission Trips for 2003
Costa Rica - June 6-15
(approx. $900) Travel to the village of Esparza to help complete the Sanctuary at
the Methodist Church and assist in teaching Vacation Bible School to the children of the
village. Contact persons: Dave and Lyn Storm There are 6 openings left for this
trip.
Maua Methodist Hospital/Meru
Agricultural Center, Kenya, Africa - June 26-July 12 (approx.
$2,700) This trip will include construction and medical projects as well as teaching
Vacation Bible School to the village children. This facility is supported by FUMC MC
through the Global Mission Partners program. Contact persons: Don and Karen Cahilly
Oklahoma Indian
Ministries July 12-19 (approx. $250) The 2003 projects are in several
different locations and consist of building and repair work to fellowship halls,
sanctuaries, and parsonages. Vacation Bible School will also be taught to the children of
the area. Contact person: Jim Daurity
Guatemala (approx.
$1,000) Each of these trips is one week in length and provides medical and dental
assistance to the villages through the program Faith In Practice. This is a Houston-based,
non-denominational organization which staffs the trips with doctors, dentists, nurses,
dental assistants, Spanish translators and others willing to go as support team members.

Additional Mission Opportunities at FUMC
MC
H.O.M.E. Project
-Helping Others - a Methodist Experience-
repairing homes for the needy in the local area. This is a one-day project.
UM ARMY -
United Methodist Action Reach-out
Mission by Youth- summer mission work camp for youth who
have completed the 9th grade. The week-long work camps are held in different towns in the
East Texas Conference throughout the summer.
Christmas boxes
for Ministry at Port of Houston - ecumenical project - in
1998 10,500 boxes were given to seaman at the Port of Houston.
Fort Bend Women's
Center - UMW upholds this project with visits, Christmas gifts and other
support as needed.
Adopt-A-Highway
- FUMC is responsible for picking up trash 4 times a year along a two- mile stretch
of FM 1092 from Lexington to Highway 6.
Randall's Good
Neighbor Program- monies collected from this project go to support the
East Fort Bend Human Needs Ministry.
Methodist Home
- located in Waco, Texas
Disaster Relief
trips - in cooperation with UMCOR (United Methodist Committee on Relief).
Recently we have provided assistance with cleanup and rebuilding to hurricane victims in
Mississippi and flood victims in the state of Texas.
Heifer Project
International - plans are underway to participate in Spring 2000 with
UMCOR on an "Ark" project.
