 I Don't Need That!

John 10:20 "And many of them said, He hath a devil, and is mad; why hear ye him?"

Hear we observe the ultimate example of those who excuse themselves from hearing the words of GOD! "The sluggard is wiser in his own conceit than seven men that can render a reason." Prov. 26:16

When men reach this level of hardness nothing but the sludge-hammer of the Spirit can break up the fallowed ground of hostility towards the truth. Oh ! What wretches men are who forsake their own mercy!

The Son of God walked this earth for three and a half years preaching the truth about man's condition and state before God, their utter depravity, and their need of eternal redemption. There was nothing in His doctrine that was of error or even slightly unfaithful. Yet we read of men departing from His teachings. There was a division therefore again among the Jews for these sayings. See John 10:19.

Too many times I have heard professing Christians imply or declare disinterest in certain teachings of the word of GOD! A certain doctrine set forth or a particular message the preacher has proclaimed. Usually one that challenges and call for commitment to the Savior.

IS IT TIME TO PICK AND CHOOSE WHAT WE SHALL HEAR FROM THE WORD OF GOD?  I cringe. For I have yet to meet anyone who is so rooted and grounded in the truth, who walks as Enoch walked, Or who stands before Elijah’s God, as he did, that there could be one doctrine, whatsoever, when set forth properly and faithfully, according to the plain teaching of the word of God that is not profitable for their soul!

Listen to King David: "Therefore I esteem all thy precepts concerning all things to be right; and I hate every false way". Was David sincere? Was there integrity in those words?

What Happened when he was rebuked by the servant of God for living in sin with another mans wife? What happened when the word of God was purposely directed at His sin of murder and concealment?

2Sam 12:7 "And Nathan said to David, Thou art the man."  vs9 "Wherefore hast thou despised the commandment of the LORD, to do evil in his sight? thou hast killed Uriah the Hittite with the sword, and hast taken his wife to be thy wife, and hast slain him with the sword of the children of Ammon."

What did David do? Did he turn away his ear from hearing the law? Even when it slew him in His sin? Did he say, I don't need that? Lets see!  Vs13 "And David said unto Nathan, I have sinned against the LORD. And Nathan said unto David, The LORD also hath put away thy sin; thou shalt not die". He esteemed all of God's precepts concerning all things to be right. What an example!

FOOD FOR THOUGHT: C.H. SPURGEON  Anybody's dog will follow me if I feed it, but only my own dog will follow me if I beat it. And, any man will be a Christian, or profess to be one, while it is all joy, and silver slippers, and gravel walks; but only the man that really loves God, who says, "All the day long have I been plagued and chastened every morning" - it is only the man of God that can say, "Though he slay me, yet will I trust him - if he take away my comfort, and I have no joy but in himself, still will I cling to him."
