"Working to Proclaim the Good News of Jesus Christ in London, Honduras, and the Philippines"

Mark & Kevin Randall- Philippines

JANUARY 1997

Happy New Year! We pray that everyone had a blessed Christmas. It seems like the suffering is magnified here in the Philippines. I would see something and say to myself, “Wow! It couldn't get any worse than that.” And sure enough, I would see something that was just as bad or worse. We were preaching a crusade recently and after the crusade a lady wanted us to pray for her son. We walked into her little apartment (maybe it was 10’ x 8’) and there under a light was a little boy. He was seven years old and was stricken by some disease when he was six. When they pulled the blanket away it was a sight I will never forget. The little boy, who just a year ago was healthy, now was just skin and bones. We began to pray for him and Noel shared the Gospel. He couldn’t respond, he was too sick, but we left believing God had touched his heart. I wanted to go and visit the little boy the next week, but we found out he had died the morning after we prayed for him. I felt sad, but realized that he must have responded in his heart that night and the Lord then took him to heaven. Yes, I believe that’s what happened, Praise the Lord!

For about a month now, we have been ministering in a cell at the jail that has mostly homosexuals. Many of them walk around in women’s lingerie. It is a very sickening sight. But the Word of God is quick and powerful and several have committed their lives to the Lord. One of them got a haircut right away and started reading the Bible. Please pray for him, he's in a tough situation.

We had a wonderful Christmas except that we missed family and friends. We received lots of cards from home reminding us of your love and thoughtfulness. The Bible Club Christmas Party was a great success. Ninety-five children came for a day of games, songs, a puppet show and to hear the message of Christ. They each received a T-shirt with our Bible Club logo on it and to top it all off, we took them to Jollibee to eat lunch. It was a surprise for them. As we lined them up at the church door to walk the two blocks to Jollibee, they started to get on the jeepney, thinking it was time to go home. When we finally got the kids oriented and moving in the right direction, they were filled with joy and excitement as we walked into Jollibee. Our “Open House” was also a great success. Seventy-five very poor families came and heard the Gospel of Jesus Christ and received food and clothing. To say the least they were all blessed.

SPECIAL NEED; We will be flying home in June for three months and need to raise funds for our airfare. We surely would appreciate any help you could give to purchase our tickets. Please indicate the gift is for ‘Airfare’. If you would like us to visit with you, your church or home group and share about God’s work here, please write or call us soon or contact Art and Marsha Schultz at 904- 453-2932 and they will take a message for us.

God Bless You,
