MONTHLY NEWSLETTER FOR AUGUST 1996

“For they all made us afraid, saying, Their hands shall be weakened from
the work, that it be not done. Now therefore, O God, strengthen my
hands.” (Nehemiah 6:9)
The sixth chapter of Nehemiah tells us of how the Jews under the
leadership of Nehemiah had been successful in rebuilding the walls
around Jerusalem. The ungodly tried to scare Nehemiah away from his
work. This Bible story has really come alive to us here as we “build up
the walls” of the London Outreach Center. This past week scaffolding,
was raised so we could repair and paint the outside of the building.
Since we have been out there, all manner of cursings and insults have
been thrown our way. It is as if literally the ungodly are seeing God’s
Kingdom being built and every demon in them is getting stirred up!
Fortunately, not all of London is against us. Since we have been
outside, we are also getting more and more positive comments from those
walking by! The man who runs a small second-hand shop next door
confided to us that people were saying we couldn’t do it—we wouldn’t be
able to fix the old place up. Then the other day one man came up to him
and said, “Well, they’ve done it and they’ve done a good job, too!”
As the walls around Jerusalem were a sign, we believe this building
will also be a sign—a shining light—in this darkened city! Please
continue to pray for “our hands to be strengthened”! After almost three
months of renovating work, we are growing weary!
TRAFALGAR SQUARE OUTREACH -- As is usual here , rain was forecast for the August “Bank Holiday” which was held on the 26th. This was the first Trafalgar Square Outreach since Arise and Shine Evangelistic Association here took over the tradition from another ministry. This outreach has been held for over forty years. We prayed fir God to give us a nice day and He did just that! It was perfect weather for the ten preachers from all over the world. During the day, a Spanish preacher came up and he was able to preach a salvation message in Spanish. Another man from Egypt preached God’s word in Arabic.
I was able to preach in American Southern! While singing “Glory to His Name”, I got so excited I ran around the Square’s statue shouting for Jesus all the way. Praise God for the many people who listened and who were individually ministered to. It was a great day! With love and appreciation, The Wood Family
