MONTHLY NEWSLETTER FOR AUGUST 1997

Dear Friends,

Praise God for His grace. Without it, we would all end up in hell. This world is headed for the judgment of God. We are commanded to preach the Good News of Jesus Christ, the hope of the world.

HONDURAS – I was invited by Missionary Johnny Cruz to go to Honduras and be the speaker at the annual National Convention for the Bible School Program he coordinates there. Johnny has 1200 students in the program and it is growing every day. Johnny has been with ASEA for two years now and Bob Thomas. has been to visit him several times. He loved it, so I figured I would take the chance! I had a great time. Johnny had speaking two to four times a day and on national television twice to minister the Gospel. I was in five of the largest churches in the country. Johnny has definitely impacted the church of Honduras and he is well respected by all. Well, he was well respected before he invited me! Hopefully I didn’t damage his reputation too much. Johnny did report that many are now witnessing everywhere they go! Praise God, somebody shout!

After ten days in Honduras I was able to visit with Ron Stagg and family in Bradenton and then on to Arcadia to be with Bob and Cozette Thomas for a few days. I was pretty exhausted, so it was a nice rest. Bob Thomas is our director of ASEA, US. Bro. Bob has since had a slight heart attack. He was working on his barn at the time when his arm began to tingle and his chest began hurting. His daughter took him to the hospital and he was treated immediately. Tests conducted a few days later showed a totally blocked artery. That was treated and he is now doing great. Praise God, somebody really shout! He is able! We are really thankful that God was there in the midst of this. Bro. Bob is a special blessing to us at ASEA.

It was good to get back home to Elizabeth and Abigail. They are doing fine. Abigail will soon be two. She isn’t really talking yet, but manages to get her message across. Elizabeth is always busy with the details of running a home and a ministry.

THE TEXAS STONES – Jack and Sandra Stone will be leaving us soon, unfortunately. They are always a blessing to the ministry here. Jack and Sandra have continued the Bible Project ministry, distributing practically all of the 700 Bibles they had shipped over. It’s been exciting. One of the Bibles was given to a small boy, Dean, who often drops in the Center. His sister later called the Center asking for counseling. Sandra and Judith Burgess ministered to her for quite some time and prayed for her to receive Jesus as her Lord and Savior! Pray with us that these Bibles will be read by those who received them. The Word of God is powerful!

SUZANNE THE VIRGINIAN – About the same time I returned to London, Suzanne Aitken, age 14, arrived for a 12 day visit. She is a live-wire for Jesus and what fun we had tearing down the devil’s kingdom here in London. Suzanne took on the forces of hell at Speaker’s Corner and she jumped at the opportunity to be mocked at Leicester Square. She mastered the “Psycho-drama Evangelism” on the buses, too. One day, the 74 year old Anglican priest we are training went with us to the hospital to minister. Suzanne had chewed up five large gum balls and her system was full of energy from the sugar. She started running up and down the bus saying, “Thank you, Jesus,” or something like that. Then she yelled, “Give me the phone, I have an idea brewing in my head.” The priest watched her in amazement and she began ministering on the phone. “Hello, Jesus,...I know you love these people and I also know there is a burning hell...” Then to everyone’s surprise she said, “You want to talk to the priest...” and she handed him the phone. He went for a while and it was great. Later the priest said how wonderful it was to see such a young person excited about Jesus. Boy was she ever!!! That gum was anointed.

JUDITH OF MISSISSIPPI – We have been blessed to also have Judith Burgess with us this past month. I went to Bible College with her dad. He called and asked if Judith could come over and we surely are glad he did! She is a quiet and sweet 21 year old who seems shy, but she has a bold style of Psycho-drama Evangelism! Just the other day we were on the bus going home from a time of outreach. We were tired and everyone on the bus was quiet. I sat on the back seat with Justin Ready and Judith sat near the front. The bus was packed and many people were standing. Then it happened. A guy got on the bus that commanded everyone’s attention. He wore black leather with steel silver spikes embedded in his belt. He had tattoos all over his arms, a round ear ring in his lips, a steal pen running through his nose, two ear rings, and that hair. His head was shaved except for a round spot of four inches on the top of his hear. His hair was weird in texture and was purple and red. Just as he got on, the person sitting next to Judith got up and you can guess what happened. Yes, this guy took the seat next to Judith. You could tell that he was thinking he was really blowing Judith’s mind, but she would soon shock him into the reality that Christ is alive.

I yelled from the back, “Psycho-drama!” People laughed, thinking I was referring to him. Then I yelled, “Judith, get on the phone!” All of a sudden the whole bus heard the phone ringing, you know, the Abigail toy phone ministry! Judith answered, “Hello,...Jesus, oh thank you for saving me...” She continued into a witness talk on a toy, red and white phone. He was shocked. “What, Lord, tell him you love him?” “Excuse me, sir, Jesus loves you,” she told the guy. “Give him a tract, Lord?” “But Lord, you don’t know what he looks like,...oh, you do.” At that point everyone began laughing. When she handed him the tract, he said, “Tell Him I don’t want it.” I began yelling in a deep voice, “Take the tract, my child.” He was amazed as well as the rest that were on the bus. The beauty of this ministry is the joy it brings along with the conviction! Some get really mad, too!

RAY OF MISSOURI – Ray Johnson has been with us since February. He came to help us work on the building and to be trained in the ministry. He sounds like an evangelist of the past, challenging sinners to turn from the wrath to come. He commands attention and his message grips the heart of the sinner. They stand, spell-bound, but when the alter call goes forth, they begin to spit nails. He leaves them with this point. Only Jesus, only Jesus can save your soul. God has called Ray to evangelize the nations. Ray will be going to the Philippines to help with the building of the City of Joy – the Gold Mine Project. He could use help raising the money for his travel expenses. If you feel led to help him out, please contact Bob Thomas, 3360 SW County Rd 769, Arcadia, FL 34266.

COMING NEXT MONTH – The tales of 15 year Justin Ready from Maryland and his two week visit here which birthed the Justin and Dirk Gospel Show!

THE CITY OF JOY will begin breaking ground in January in the Philippines. The City will bring in three hundred more students when finished. It will be a meeting area for the poor children of the area. In a field of poverty, the CITY OF JOY will see people saved, educated, healed, and discipled for Christ. If you could help, it is a worthy project. We have many more blocks to be sold for the Gold Mine Project which will bring joy into the lives of the students and families. Each block represents a gift of $400.00 (or 10 gifts of $40.00). Please designate this gifts to ASEA’s GOLD MINE and thank you very much!

With love and appreciation, The Wood Family

Abigail has learned some Psycho-Drama, too,and she enjoys doing it on the bus. "Daddy," she says, "why do people reject Jesus?" "I don't know," says Daddy, "They must be crazy."
