I always put the binding on and clear coat it two or three times. Let cure and mask with Pianters Green. Then proceed with the body. During the clear coating of the body I remove the green tape. Then make thickness adjustments. By the way, the way the Gibson Co. still scrapes binding is with the slides you get with a kids (or pro) MIcroscope kit, man it works like magic, no cutting, no gouging, just removes the lacquer.
