The "Funk Machine"

This is a thinline tele design with a few modifications. The body is made from five pieces of wood. The main bulk of the body is two pieces of alder that has been joined and routed out in a series of six chambers. The top is 1/4 inch bookmatched maple and the stripe down the middle is something called catalox. The bridge pickup is an old fender from the 70's and the neck pickup is out of an old hohner (i think). The neck is a Chandler strat neck that I reshaped into the tele headstock. The finish is nitro lacquer. The trans color is made from sanding back a dark red mahogany dye applied to the bare wood. After sealing I applied a coat of trans black mixed with lacquer and thinner. the binding is natural and the back and sides are opaque black. the whole body was then covered with about 20 or so coats of clear.

I also couldn't help adding
"made in Detroit" to one of those Bel Inc. inkjet decals. For some reason, everyone who looks at the guitar is really fascinated by the decal. It's funny what some people think is a big deal.

This guitar was labeled the "Funk Machine" by someone at the local Guitar Center. I suppose it has a "funk" sound to it.
