CORVETTE GAZETTE – AUGUST 2008

Central Oklahoma Corvette Club

FROM THE PRESIDENT

We had a lot of people gone for the July 2008 meeting on vacation and on the Santa Fe Trail ride with Wagon Master Don Birdwell. I’m sure they will come back with lots of camp fire stories and trail ride tales. Stay tuned for that one.  As usual we still had a lot of items to cover with the up coming events. More of the Annual Big Deal Road trip in the business area below.  Read this one closely because it requires your mail in response. We had a great time with the Goodman’s Gimmick Rally in June and the Cherrylynn announced the winners, read more below. We are still looking for a Civic Events Coordinator as health issues have limited Dawson Engle’s continued leadership at this time, please volunteer?  The past event with the Yard Dawgz in June was fantastic. We were able to display 21 cars and have 40 people attend the game.  A great time was enjoyed by all.  Thank you to Brenda Madison for setting that up for us. We do have many activities coming up in the near future so watch for email reminders and read the calendar of events below. The Lusby’s, club members have extended an invitation to their new hometown of Rogers AR, August 23-23, 2008 for the Frisco Days and car show. This is the weather for driving our Corvettes, stopping to eat and enjoying good fellowship.  Please come to the meetings and activities and be a part of your Central Oklahoma Corvette Club.  Thank you to Judy Hohne for baking cookies and brownies this month and they were excellent.  I think the gauntlet has been thrown for the home baked goodies challenge each month and see who does the best baking job???  (I like them all).  Thank you on behalf of everyone.

Thank you all very much,

Lynn Chapman

BUSINESS ITEMS:

1.  Rally Event:  Dalfred and Cherrylynn Goodman conducted a Gimmick Rally Event for club members on Sunday, June 29th.  A great time was had by all participants in trying to find their way around OKC to Edmond and The Flat Tire Burger Restaurant.  The winners were: 1st Jeff, Shavonne and Rachel Hohne, tied for 2nd were Chris and Matthew Hohne and Charles and Linda Beat, 3rd Tuna and Susan Dobbins, 4th Sue and Tony Scott and 5th Harold and Cathy Wardlow.  I’m not going to tell you where I ended up but I had a great time.  Thank you Dalfred and Cherrylynn Goodman and please do it again?

2.  YARD DAWGS:  We displayed 21 Corvettes outside the Ford Center on June 28th and 40 members were able to attend the game. The Yard Dawgz and their organization were very gracious hosts and have put out an open invitation for us to attend again.  Thanks go to Josh and Wendy of the Yard Dawgz organization and to Danna Lawson for taking the pictures which are now posted on the web.

3. CLUB CAPS:  The club caps are here or at least part of them. We received 72 of the 97 ordered.  The remainder will probably be here in a week or so from now. The caps are absolutely super and of great quality.  For those of you who ordered a cap you can contact Jack at the next meeting and pay for them if you haven’t already.  He has the list and it is complete. If you did not get in on the previous list and would like one send me an email and I will add your name to the next order list. An additional order will be sent on an as needed basis.  Only those who signed up first will get one first. The cost of the cap is $25 each.

4. CIVIC EVENTS COORDINATOR: We are in need of another Civic Events Coordinator as health issues have limited Dawson Engle’s continued leadership at this time.  The civic events coordinator would be our point of contact and schedule convertibles for parades and homecomings as well as other events for everyone in other club activities. We are much more involved in a variety of things these days than ever before.  Step up and volunteer, send me an email please?  Yes it does take some time but what doesn’t that is worth while?  Great leadership opportunity.

5. C-6 Roof Panels: It has been reported that members are having their C-6 roof panels delaminating and coming a part in travel.  So please check yours and see if the glue that holds them together is separating.  If they are it will be obvious when you check them.  This happened before to the C-5 roof panels also.

COMING EVENTS:

1. Annual Road Trip to The Big Deal Secret Location is Saturday July 28th: (Called the Route 66 Cruise NOT) We have sent out the forms (email) required for members to complete and return to Jack Hohne with your check for $8 per person.  The club is going to pick up the remainder, about $7 per person, for the trip to give back to our members and their families for their work throughout the year in our fund raising efforts.  The form will tell us how many and gives you a choice of a hamburger or chicken sandwich for the lunch meal.  The $8 charge will cover the sandwich, fries a drink, tax and tip.  As Jack would say, blood, guts and feathers all charges included.  So please get those forms and money to Jack immediately as the event in just over a week away and with pony express mailing your envelopes it will take some time.  Please read all the forms as they will tell you where to meet and what time we will leave. Don’t forget to bring your two way radios and turn to channel 5.

2. August 2008 Meeting: Our next meeting will be Tuesday, August 19th at the Clarence Page Building, Wiley Post Airport with a Board meeting at 7:00 PM and the club meeting at 7:30 PM.  We did not chose a place to eat prior to the next meeting so if anyone has a preference please email me and I will send an email to everyone?  We usually meet at the restaurant between 5:15 PM and 5:30 PM so everybody can get to the meeting on time.
