Anne Alff

Since 1996, Holy Word kindergarteners have entered the world of formal education under the gentle guidance of Anne Alff.

Anne was pursuing her degree in education at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire when she moved to Austin with her husband Andy in 1980. She completed a double degree in elementary education and special education at the University of Texas in 1982. While exploring Texas (including a 1983-1987 Houston visit), Anne has taught in special education resource classrooms in Houston and Lockhart, and has substitute taught in Austin and Pflugerville. Most recently, she has completed the formal coursework for WELS certification although there may still be the requirement of a project or two. (It's always something.)

In their spare time, the Alffs found the time to work on a couple projects of their own; their daughter Jamie is currently a freshman at Texas Tech and their son Justin is a junior at Pflugerville High School. Anne was a stay-at-home mom until Jamie and Justin reached school age (both are graduates of Holy Word Lutheran grade school). The Alffs are members of Risen Savior, our sister congregation in south Austin, where Andy has served in various leadership positions including congregation president.

Anne's Teaching Tip: 'Childhood is a journey, not a race.' Take care not to push little ones to the point of frustration. Instead nurture and instill a life-long love for learning through discovery. Use God's Word as a guide along each step of the way. Immerse them in family devotions. Study Bible stories and verses together.

Over the last eight years, many school parents (especially mothers) can attest to the positive impact of Anne's diligent and patient ministry to our little kindergarten lambs.
