About Christy
Christy has served Holy Word school and congregation in many roles since moving to Texas in early 1997. Her first teaching 'tour of duty' started in December '97, when she took over for Nicki Hill, teaching grades 3, 4 and 5 for the remainder of that school year. (That change being prompted by Morgan Hill making her entrance into the world).
The next two school years, 1998-2000, Christy taught grades 5&6. She completed that phase of her teaching career, just in time to have her daughter, Cassidy (who arrived only 4 days after classes let out in Spring, 2000.) Cassidy states that she is eager to 'go to school with Mom' next year.
Fall of 2004 marked Christy's return to Holy Word's classrooms. She is currently teaching grades 3&4. Christy has also been very active as a leader and participant in our church choir, sharing her musical talents.
Christy is another product (and blessing) from our synod's school system; she attended Lutheran elementary and high schools in Seattle and Phoenix. She claims Phoenix as her home town, having grown up in Arizona from age 12 until she left to attend Martin Luther College (1991-1995). She taught in Milwaukee for 1.5 years before moving to Austin.
Something New: This school year Christy and our 5&6th grade teacher, Steven Witt, have teamed up to try something new. Christy has taught math for both the 3&4th and 5&6th grade classrooms, while Steven has reciprocated in the subject of language arts. This experiment has yielded a number of benefits - subject consistency, utilization of a teacher's strengths and improved insight, so that an instructor can better prepare students for what lies ahead.
Although, at times, the curves in the road have been trying, Christy has, more than once, answered the call to be a solid, dedicated member of our teaching staff.
