SSR Stage X Intake
Similar to the 99+ Cobra, FR500 and Cobra R intakes, the SSR Stage X intake provides an inline orientation between the heads and intake port. With the OE intake configuration for 96-98 Cobras, the intake runners in the heads are at an acute angle relative to the mating ports of the intake. While the angle itself isn't a problem, the fact that it is an abrupt change in direction rather than gradual is far less than desireable. Rather than being a large radius transition, there is a sharp transition in runner direction at the interface between the IMRC plate and the intake.

This sharp transition creates a number of adverse conditions:
* Flow restriction to intake air charge
* Undesirable turbulence in intake air charge
* Attentuation of energy associated with bi-directional harmonic pressure pulses
* Poor fuel distribution (injector nozzle is located just below sharp transition)
* Air charge sees a projected face of the IMRC butterfly plates

This picture shows what the reverse pressure wave 'sees' when it passes from the IMRC/head ports into the intake ports (i.e., looking down the centerline of the IMRC/head ports). Similarly, the incoming air charge and the forward pressure wave see the floor of the IMRC/head ports as they pass from the air horn boss into the IMRC/head ports. The air horn boss centerline and the IMRC/head port centerline are in angled relation to each other. The edge of the IMRC plate at the intake deck defines a sharp transition between the IMRC/head ports and the intake port. This picture shows the runner orientation for the FR500 intake (on DS97Cobra's big bore engine). The intake runner centerline is essentially in-line with the head port centerline. The intake runenrs and head ports of the OE 99+ Cobra and 2000 Cobra R intakes have a similar in-line configuration.
