Clearancing Camshaft Caps For FR500 Camshafts
Upon installation of the FR500 cams, I noted interference between the exhaust cams and the mating camshaft caps. Due to this interference, the exhaust cams would not make full rotations. The intake cams and corresponding camshaft caps had more than ample clearance. To provide required clearance for the exhaust cams, the camshaft caps for the exhaust cams have been slightly modified by removing about .050" of material along the edges of the offending camshaft caps. This may or may not be a problem only on certain year/vintage heads.

NOTE: It is essential to keep each camshaft cap with the head on which it was originally mounted. The caps are bored in place on the corresponding head. Swapping caps between heads will likely result in unacceptable clearances between the heads and cams.
