X-Pipe Comparison
X-pipes are known to provide exceptional results on high-revving DOHC mod motors. However, when looking at x-pipes from a design standpoint, there are two distinction types of x-pipe designs. A Bassani x-pipe has a hybridized x-configuration (X configuration in overall shape, but more similar to an H-pipe or MAC PowerChamber in function), whereas the x-pipes offered by Dr. Gas, VRS and Magnaflow have merged x-configurations that provide more typical x-pipe attributes.

The objective of this project is to evaluate the differences between the Bassani-style X pipe and the more traditions merged X-pipe configuration (e.g., Dr. Gas, VRS and Magna-Flow).

Both pipes in this evaluation have identical catalytic convertors (CarSound PN: 53006) welded in. Also, both x-pipes are made from nominally 2.5" ID tubing.

Now for the comparison.

DRONE:
The VRS x-pipe exhibits dramatically less drone and overall cabin noise than the Bassani x-pipe. The reduction in in-cabin noise with the VRS pipe is a welcomed attribute of the VRS x-pipe (merged x-pip design). The VRS pipe results in an overall quiter exhaust note at cruise and light throttle conditions.

EXHAUST NOTE:
The exhaust note is quite similar. Perhaps, the VRS pipe has a slighly more 'exotic' (read, non H-pipe sound) at WOT. However, the catback system (3" MAC pipes with 3.5" tips and Ultra-Flo mufflers) includes tip-mounted resonators, which could be the limiting factor in overall exhaust note.

POWER:
The dyno comparison will be completed shortly. SOTP says the VRS pipe wins hands down, but the rollers will be the final judge.
