This is an electrical thermostatic switch that replaces the stock fan turn on sensor in the lower intake of Ford 2.3 turbocharged engines. It activates the factory Fan Control Relay at 185 F instead of the stock 221 F. 1) Drain coolant from radiator. 2) Find the fan turn on sensor on the bottom side of the lower intake manifold. A) On ’84-’85 SVOs this sensor is a post style with one wire. B) On ’85.5-’86 SVOs it is 2 wires. 3) Remove the old sensor. 4) On ’84-‘85s put thread sealant on the threads of the new sensor and screw it into the lower intake manifold. Tighten snugly. 5) On ‘85.8-’86s put thread sealant on the threads of the new sensor and screw it into the supplied adapter. Then apply thread sealant to the threads of the adapter and install the combination sensor/adapter into the lower intake. Tighten snugly. 6) On ’84-’85s if you do not wish to keep the factory wire connector plug, cut it off and crimp the supplied quickslide terminal on the wire. If you want to keep the factory wire connector plug, crimp the supplied quickslide terminal to the supplied length of wire. Insert the other end of the wire into the supplied tap connector then slip the tap connector over the factory wire and, using pliers, squeeze the splice connector metal element until it is flush with the connector housing. Close the cover of the tap connector. 7) On ’85.5-‘86s the procedure is the same except make the desired connection to the yellow wire. 8) Plug the quickslide connector onto the sensor. 9) Refill coolant. 10) Start the car and let it warm up while checking for coolant leaks. 11) Insure that the fan turns on and off. PARTS LISTSensor, Adapter, 4” 16awg stranded wire, quickslide connector, tap connector.
