Comments:  Dear Joan, I'm sure you remember me as the son of Gary Bartay. I have some bad news to report. My father was struck with a major heart attack on the afternoon of 28 Dec. 99. I went to Dallas to see him in the hospital the same night and I stayed there with my stepmother for 4 days. He showed significant signs of improvement while I was there. When I got to Dallas he was on a ventilator, feeding tube, lots of drugs, and other attachments. He did not respond to me but by the second day he could squezze my hand tight and his vital signs had stablized. On day three he looked even better. still squeezing my hand, he could nod up and down in response to me. I left Dallas the following day. My sister went to go see him the day before yesterday (Jan. 2) and she said that he was doing great. He was off the ventilator and feeding tube and was able to talk. One doctor had said that, " 95% of the patients brought in under his condition do not recover as quickly." Uncle! Tandy and aunt Joy came to visit during my stay there. The doctors are looking at a possible bypass surgery in about 2-3 weeks. I'll tell you, it has been the longest 7 days of my life. I dont want to get to optimistic about the whole situation of him recovering quickly. I feel I might jinx it. I have never prayed so hard either. If you have any good ones of your own, now is the time. My father is to young and to good of a man to go now. If you wish to check up on my father from time to time, I have xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx. Its (xxx) xxx-xxxx. you can call it 24 hours a day, and when you do call, they will let dad know who it was and that the person sends him your best hopes. well I guess thats all for now. I hate to be the bringer of bad news. I might go to dallas again in a couple of weeks. They said they might have him walking by then. Until then, lets keep our fingers crossed and our prayers strong. I'll keep you updated on his situation as info ! comes to me. talk to ya later.

Sincerly, Mark A. Bartay
