Elisha4 Luna (Peter3) was born ca 1784 in pre-Tennessee in the early settlements on the Cumberland River near Nashborough. Elisha was married (or made bond) on 2 Jan 1804 in Sumner County Tennessee to Mary Ann "Polly" Enex (b 1785 N Car or 1896 Va). Israel Ambers was security (Sumner Co Marr Rcds p 18). He was mustered into service at Fayetteville 20 Sep 1814 and served in the 2nd Regiment of W. Tennessee Militia as a private under Captain James Tubbs and Lieutenant Colonel Leroy Hammons. He was honorably discharged 10 Apr 1815 at Wilson Springs, Madison County Mississippi Territory.
No record of Elisha4 Looney is found in Lincoln County where his father and brothers, James and Peter, lived. He is listed as Elisha Looney in Smith County in 1820 and again in 1830 but his deed to Benjamin L. Enoch dated 18 Feb 1832 is recorded as from Elisha Luna (Smith Co. Deeds 1832-1834), p 32). He was of Smith County when he purchased land from Isaac Adcocks of Warren County in 1833 (Warren Co Deeds I, p 50).
DeKalb County was created in 1837 and may have included Elisha Luna's land. He is listed there in 1840 as Elisha Luna 50/60 with female in same age group. Also listed are Andrew Luna 20/30 and Peter Luna 20/30 who were probably sons of Elisha and Mary Luna.
Elisha4 Luna probably died in 1841. An account of the sale of his effects was filed at the August term of court in DeKalb County in that year. It was signed by A. E. Luna, Administrator, and was recorded in Administrations and Settlements 1838-1846 p 160. Mary Luna, probably the widow, made about two dozen purchases. Henry Meckson and Wm. Pinegar (possible sons-in-law) made four purchases each. Sampson Cantrell (perhaps another son-in-law) made about two dozen purchases. No purchases were made by McGinness but P. G. Magness, a creditor, was paid $24.45. A supplementary account was presented 21 Dec 1843 by Andrew E. Luna, Administrator. He was credited with expending about $92 and charged with receiving about $74, making the balance due to the administrator $28.

At the 1850 census of DeKalb County, Mary A. Luney, 65, was found living alone. One of her close neighbors was (son) Peter Luney, 31; another was (daughter) Nancy Atnips, 30; not far away was (son) Andrew E. Luney, 39; and (son) Elisha Luney, 24, was living with Peter and his sister, Sarah, 26. These were almost certainly children of Elisha and Mary A. Luna. Peter, Andrew E. and Nancy had boys named John C. and Andrew E. and Nancy had a daughter name Mary A.
In applications for bounty land in 1850 and again in 1855, the widow, Mary, stated that Elisha died 27 Apr 1841 or 1842 in DeKalb County. Her application paper of 1855 was dated in White County (next east of DeKalb). Testimony was given in the 1850 paper that Elisha and Mary had reared a large family, all of lawful age as of that date.
At the 1860 census of DeKalb County, Mary A. Luna lived with her son, Elisha, 34, still near her daughter, Martha Atnip, 42, and another son, Andrew E. Luna, 49. Their post office was Smithville.
In the following reconstructed and tentative family of Elisha and Mary Ann Luna, the dates of birth are adjusted for a good over-all "fit" with all available data, including census records of 1820, 1830, 1840, 1850, 1850 and especially from information gathered by Thomas Webb of Smithville, DeKalb County, Tennessee:

David5 Looney b. ca 1828. (Reported by Thomas Webb). See FIFTH GENERATION. *Note: James5 M. and John5 S. Luna were placed in the same family partly because they seem to have married sisters. William5 C. is placed here partly because of a report that he had an older brother, James M. All three of these men are not reported in the family of Elisha4 by Thomas Webb of Smithville, DeKalb County, who has done more, perhaps, on Elisha's family than anyone else. William C. was a smith as well as a farmer and may belong in the John4 C. Luna family about which very little is known. That is William5 C. Luna above may be "Blacksmith Bill" of "Old Jack's" family. (The Elisha4 family has now grown somewhat larger than original estimates from census records and the eldest daughter has still not been found.)

FOURTH GENERATION
Peter2 Branch
Peter4 Luna (Peter3) was b ca 1788 in pre-Tennessee, probably near the Cumberland River, south of present Gallatin, Tennessee. Peter was m. 7 Nov 1804 (possibly date of marriage bond) to Polly Barnes b. ca 1785 (Sumner Co Marr Rcds p 18). Peter4 volunteered (mustered in at Fayetteville) ca 1 Feb 1814 and served as Second Sergeant under Captain George Smith in the Fourth Regiment of Tennessee Mounted Gunmen commanded by Colonel Robert Steel in the war with the Creek Indian Nation until honorably discharged on 15 Apr 1814. His bounty land applications were numbered 12999-40-50 and 36951-20-55 and dated 28 Oct 1850 and 13 Apr 1855, Marshall County, Tennessee.
Peter4 and family were enumerated in 1820 (Loony) and 1830 (Luna, Jr.) in Lincoln County, Tennessee, but in 1840 in Marshall County (probably because of a new county). At the 1850 census of Marshall County, (probably because of a new county). At the 1850 census of Marshall County, Peter4 Luna was listed as 62 years old and Polly as 65. She died 10 Jul 1856 (gravestone, New Hope Cemetery). The only other member of the household in 1850 was Peter5 Luna, aged 22. No trace of this family was found in the 1860 census. 1999 UPDATE
According to J. D. Luna's letter written in 1925, Peter4, his great-grandfather, was called "Wagoner Pete".
In the following reconstructed and tentative family of Peter4 and Polly (Barnes) Luna the dates of birth are adjusted for a "good fit" to all available data, including census records of 1820, 1830, 1840, 1850 and 1860. It is necessary to assume some daughters without their names in order to satisfy the evidence from some early census records in which names are not listed. The eight sons are as given by J. D. Luna in his letter of 1925.
