Kaulana Na Pua 1998 Workshop Series
featuring
Family Language Workshop
December 5 & 6, 1998
at Loyola Marymount University.
at the
Redondo Beach Performing Arts Center
This sold out performance began with a fresh Southern California
group, Kua'ana. Their melodic new music was very entertaining and those
in attendance were "Jus Kickin it with Kua'ana".
After a quick break and drawing of door prizes, the audience were
treated, and I mean treated, to the unique foursome of Sistah Robi, Sean
Na'auao, Ernie Cruz, Jr., and Kata Maduli. A true mixture of contemporary
Hawaiian music playing most of their popular songs. It seemed like they
were a well established group, seemingly having played together for years.
An indication of their professionalism, music expertise, and Aloha spirit.
They always seemed like they knew where they were going. ;)
Intermission allowed restroom breaks, shopping at the various array
of vendors (i.e. Penina O Le Pasifika, Island Legends, Styles of Hawai'i,
Hawaiian Pride Graphics, Slades of Hawai'i, JP South Pacific, and more),
and food (ono hot saimin!). It also featured the awards presentation for
the 1st Annual Golf Tournament.
Soon, however, notice was given that the concert was about to resume.
If you ever wanted to clear an area, tell them that the Makaha Sons were
going to be coming on stage in 5 minutes. You'll have the area cleared
in 3.
Moon, John, and Jerome did not disappoint the 1500 in attendance.
Playing for almost 3 hours non-stop, they gave the audience the best value
in town. Many of their "old" favorites lulled the audience into a hypnotic
state of balmy air, palm trees, island life, and the sweet smell of the
tropics. Uncle Jerry provided the extra entertainment making everyone laugh.
Na Meakanu O Laka O Hawai'i danced beautifully, adding to the high energy
already on stage.
A special Mahalo goes to our emcee, comedian and entertainer, Kamaka
Brown. A true professional, knowing exactly how to capture the audience.
Keep reminding us about our hannabuddah
days.
Fans were also treated to a successful CD signing and short performance
at Borders Books in Cerritos (10/9) AND Torrance (10/10) where the entire
group played music to promote their CD's and the concert.
KPCF would like to thank all of those in attendance. It is because
of YOU that we bring these great entertainers to the Southland. YOU, who
are Hawaiian, relocated Hawaiians, and Hawaiians at heart who still live
with the Aloha Spirit. MAHALO!!!!!! We would also like to thank our donators
and vendors, your unending support of KPCF is appreciated. Mahalo to Kua'ana,
continue to spread the Aloha through your fine music. Kamaka Brown, we
hope our relationship will continue to grow. Makaha Sons, Sistah Robi,
Sean Na'auao, Ernie Cruz, Jr, DJ, you are our inspiration, thank you for
bringing the homeland to our new homeland. You are such special people,
you will always re-ignite our love for Hawai'i. Janet and Kata Maduli (Mt.
Kalihi Productions), "Whea Bruddah's stay again?". We have found new friends
and will keep you close to our hearts.
