Work Experience:
U S Navy: Surface Warfare Officer 1975-1980. Duties included
personnel administration, navigation, electronic warfare, combat information,
preventive maintenance administration, shipboard legal officer and numerous
collateral duties. Received early promotion from Lieutenant junior grade
to Lieutenant.
Pioneer Concrete of Texas, Inc.: 1980-1992. Positions
included manager-trainee, assistant and plant manager, and area manager
(Dallas and Austin). Responsible for safety, personnel administration,
scheduling and maintaining equipment, inventory control, quality control,
regulatory applications and compliance, marketing and sales, and profitability
of ready-mix operations from San Antonio, Dallas, Fort Worth and Austin
locations. Sales revenues were in excess of $12 million per year . Directly
responsible for over 60 employees. Pioneer sold its Austin operation to
Cemex (Southern Materials) in May 1992.
Southern Materials, Inc.:
1992-1996. Concrete Area Manager until promotion to General Manager of
concrete, aggregate and asphalt operations for Central Texas in July 1992.
Responsible for every facet of the operations, including sales, production,
credit and collections, and profitability. Cemex' acquisition forecast
for production and sales price was exceeded by 20%. Staff was reduced while
equipment and production doubled. Profits were made in the Central Texas
region for the first time in eight years, including the aggregate company,
which had never before made a profit. Sales and payroll exceeded $24 million
and 110 employees respectively.
J. C. Evans Construction Co.,
Inc: 1996-Present. General Manager- Rio Materials, Inc. Developed
250 acre pasture into third largest Austin area sand and gravel operation
(Rio Materials) within six months of its inception. Produced pro forma
for financing, located, purchased and supervised the erection of used plant
and dredge, procured all permits, hired all personnel, recruited all customers,
directly liaisoned with MSHA inspectors and the District Director. I have
been the sole sales representative of Rio Materials, as well as being solely
responsible for profitability. The operation was profitable within only
five months of initial production.
