Parade check-in opens at 7:00
AM and the parade will begin promptly at 9:00
AM.Please check-in
at Parade Desk located by the NW corner of Central Elementary (corner of
Freeman and Merrill) by 8:15
AM to ensure your position in the lineup.To
be eligible to be judged for awards you must be in place by 8:15
AM.Late arrivals may be
assigned to the rear section of the parade.Due
to safety reasons, we ask that participants do not throw candy or other
items or walk along the parade route to pass out materials as this slows
down the parade.In addition, stopping
in the middle of the parade to perform cannot be allowed as this also slows
down the parade.

Entry
fee is $10 for one space (40
ft length max. – such as one pickup w/trailer, one marching group, 2 automobiles,
1 semi-trailer truck); additional adjoining spaces are $5.Entry
deadline: Wednesday, July 2 at 5:00pm.Entries
received after July 2nd will be $15.Late
entries will be accepted the day of the parade until 8:00
AM with the appropriate late fee and will be assigned to the
last part of the parade.
PARADE RULES AND SAFETY GUIDELINES

General Safety Guidelines
-
Each parade float (entry) shall have a designated Float Chairperson.
The Float Chairperson must submit a completed Float Chairperson Letter
of Acknowledgement and shall be responsible for adherence to all safety
regulations during parade operation.

Each parade participating group is responsible for their own safety
as well as the safety of the public audience around them.
-
All participants must follow directions from authorized parade
and law enforcement officials. This includes all uniformed public
safety personnel and anyone else identifiable as a parade official.

Drivers and the floats or vehicles they are operating will be
removed from the parade if they fail to safely control their vehicle or
operate their vehicle in a manner deemed unsafe by a representative of
the City, Police Department, or Fire Department.

Any unsafe or troublesome conditions along the parade route should
be brought to the attention of a parade official immediately.
Parade Floats, Vehicles, and Other Entries
-
Floats/vehicles should be constructed in dimensions that do not
interfere with traffic control devices, roadway lighting, private property,
etc.
-
Float trailer vehicles must be equipped with a reliable hitch
and safety tow chains that are in good repair and adequate to control the
drawn load.
-
A sturdy means of support to be constructed of wood or metal must
be provided for each person riding on the float. Participants may
not ride on hoods, fenders or side rails of any vehicle.
-
All motorized vehicles in the parade must be driven by a driver
18 years of age or older who holds a current valid license to operate a
motor vehicle in the State of Texas and proof of insurance.

All drivers are prohibited from being under the influence of any
substance that would impair their judgment or driving ability whether that
substance be prescribed by a physician, an over the counter drug, alcohol,
or an illicit drug.

Drivers shall not participate in any activity that will distract
from their driving of the float or vehicle, i.e. eating, talking on cell
phone, etc.
-
All floats or vehicles must remain in their assigned position
during the duration of the parade.
-
Parade floats and other entries should not stop unless the entire
parade has otherwise stopped.
-
If a float or vehicle becomes disabled during the parade, the
driver shall move that float or vehicle as far right on the roadway as
possible so that the remainder of the parade can pass safely. If
the driver is able to return the float or vehicle to a drivable condition
and the end of the parade has not yet passed, the driver shall wait until
the end of the parade passes and then may rejoin the parade at the end.
If the driver is unable to render the float or vehicle drivable before
the end of the parade passes, the driver shall make arrangements for all
participants riding on the float or vehicle to be transported to a safe
place and then make arrangements for the float or vehicle to be removed.

Any float with participants predominantly thirteen (13) years
old and younger must have adult supervision present on the float at all
times and one (1) adult safety walker posted on each side of the float
at all times.

Walking units with participants predominantly thirteen (13) years
old and younger must have one (1) adult safety member in front and one
(1) adult safety member in the rear of the walking unit.

No participants will be permitted to ride on the float or vehicle
or in a position in violation of the State Transportation Code, and/or
local ordinances, to the beginning point of the parade or when leaving
the ending point of the parade.

Entries with horses or animals of any kind should provide people
to perform immediate excrement removal.
-
All animals in the parade must be kept on leashes and held by
someone strong enough to manage them.
-
It is recommended that all parade floats/vehicles be equipped
with a fire extinguisher readily marked and available.
Participants
-
Once the float is in motion, persons shall not mount or dismount
the float.
-
All participants riding on a float or vehicle must remain seated
at all times during the parade.
-
Throwing of items from parade participants is not allowed and
will be strictly enforced. Handing out candy or objects to parade
spectators is permitted by walkers only.

Participants may not solicit parade spectators to enter the parade
route.
-
Participants under eighteen (18) years of age on bicycles, scooters,
skates, skateboards, etc. must wear a helmet and proper safety equipment.

The undersigned hereby
releases the Duncanville Lions Club, its volunteers, and the City of Duncanville
from any claim, action, demand or liability arising out of any accident
or conduct of any nature of the 4th of July Committee Members,
or its agents in connection with the parade.The
undersigned understands that refunds will not be made due to inclement
weather or natural disaster nor will refunds be granted after July
2, 2009.All requests
for refunds must be made in writing.The
4th of July Committee has the right to refuse any entry.No
protests or demonstrations will be allowed.I
also understand if a parade participant throws items, responsibility lies
solely with the sponsoring organization of that parade entry and it shall
assume all liability.
