Being from San Antonio, Andrew and I have heard of this legend for a long time. Now we are going to share it with those that have yet to be either drawn into it’s historical/paranormal meaning or pushed away by its scientific explanation. Well, without further adieu, here it goes:
The legend has it that a busload of kids were killed when their bus stalled on the tracks and was hit by a train, and now if you stop on the tracks and put your car in neutral, your car will roll over the tracks. The legend also states that if you powder your car you'll see the kids' fingerprints in the powder and that the streets in the neighborhood are named after these kids.
Matt: I visited these tracks recently and I must say that it was pretty creepy. Our car was OFF, not in neutral, and we still managed to get across the tracks. I know that the explanation is going to say something about the place being on an incline, but to me, it genuinely felt like someone was pushing the car. Not a violent push or anything, but enough to where it didn’t feel like we were simply rolling down a hill. The truck that went ahead of us had fingerprints on the back because they dusted it with powder. It was pretty unusual. I’d like to think that I’m a bit of a believer and a bit of a skeptic when it comes to things of this nature, but after having experienced it firsthand, I am more of a believer. Science can explain away all they want, but I know what I felt.
Andrew: I visited the tracks about 5 years ago, I think. Yeah, we rolled over the tracks, but that's it. We had a device that measured how level the land we were standing on was, and it was definately inclined.
There were no fingerprints on the car, despite us dusting it with powder prior to going over the tracks (supposedly, the spirits of the kids that died leave hand prints on your car from pushing it across the tracks). However, some have said the hand prints are NOT from kids pushing the car across the tracks. Instead, they're simply from oily residue left on the car from your hands that are still there even after washing the car. For whatever reason, this causes handprints to appear soon after putting powder on the car.
I'm not saying that the whole tracks thing is just one big farce; as far as I know the spirits of those children may still haunt the area. I've heard other stories about strange occurences around the infamous "tracks." However, I think that the whole tracks experience of having a car pushed across the tracks is easily explained by very natural, earthly causes.
