The $20 bill, evidence of 9-11? [Note: This article first appeared in the San Antonio Express-News on Sunday June 16th, 2002. We made a few minor changes (mainly the names of the citizens) and added some stuff here and there but it’s mainly the original article. Our take on the whole thing is at the bottom. Enjoy!] This has got to be the most serious article on this site. It tends to lead to one of the greatest government conspiracies since Pearl Harbor. Here’s proof of the government’s advance knowledge of the 9-11 attacks. Thanks to Matt for typing this up. Take a $20 bill and fold it lengthwise along the White House side. Fold the two outer edges toward you like you’re making an airplane. Flip it and you’re looking at a precursor of Sept. 11th. If you do it right, you should see the twin towers of the World Trade Center on fire. Turn the paper airplane over to the other side, and you see the Pentagon on fire. Struck dead center. Creepy? Read on. Nineteen suicide hijackers were on board American and United flights that went down. One terrorist conspirator was captured later - thus the significance of the number 20. The eerie-ness doesn’t stop there. Other people’s notions about the terror attacks have surfaced from the $20 bill recently, fueled by the Internet and astonished conversations at nightclubs, in the workplace, and schools around the country. But the thing is, is it folklore, urban myth, party trick or secret code? Michael Sanders has been to the bottom of the Dead Sea, searched for remnants of the Ten Commandments and looked for codes in the Bible. At the website, www.biblemysteries.com, he investigates historical evidence of Bible Stories. A self-made archaeologist, scholar and consultant on such TV shows as NBC’s “Biblical Mysteries: Ark of the Covenant,” Sanders calls the $20 bill theory an urban myth in the making. “I see no evidence, there’s nothing there,” said Sanders from Irvine, Calif. “It’s another urban myth. There’s lots of them.” But among everyday people, reactions to the “hidden images” in the bill range from surprise (“Holy Cow!”) to chills (“That’s creepy”) to suspicions of a government conspiracy. “It blew my mind,” says San Antonian Nathan Thompsango, who said he received instructions in an e-mail from Holland. “It’s probably just coincidence but who could have thought of so many things about Sept. 11th.” “It’s trippy,” says Angela Harris, who runs Martinis, a popular watering hole near a popular mall. “I didn’t know the whole story,” staring at the words “United” and “America” which are parallel to the “towers” on the folded $20 bill(referring to the names of the ill-fated hijacked airliners). But baseball mom Christy Davis, thinks something is up. “There’s some sort of conspiracy going on,” she said, smiling. (Us: hehe) “That’s not something that just happens overnight. The government knew.” But the most common reaction to the “clues” on the bill is: “Who’s got the time to think of this?” “Man is a very fearful animal,” Sanders added. “Because of that fear he tries to ameliorate that is some way. In terms of conspiracy theories, I think, in democracies, that people have become so far away from their government that they feel powerless.” Which may be why people are seeing other messages in the folded $20 bill. Nine plus 11 equals 20, for example. And the number “2” signifies the Twin Towers. Two plus two equals four, the number of planes that went down Sept. 11 (that adds up in the corners of your $20 bill paper airplane). “Numbers are enormously important,” says psychic Amber Rodriguez, who in her 38-year career has worked with police investigators on tough cases. “It even tells us about numbers in the Bible. Numbers give you certain vibrations. The number “11” for example, is a “major number” where anything can happen she says. -Author’s name withheld for Security Reasons The Lone Conspirators’ Take on this: Matt: Well I have been hearing about this on the news and I read something in Newsweek a month or two ago about how the White House had advance knowledge of the attacks and did nothing. But I had no idea that the conspiracy went this far. My dad said, “We have terrorists making our money.” And while that might not be too far from the truth, I think that the explanation goes even further than that. I think that the government thought that the 9-11 attacks were of Pearl Harbor-esque necessity in the fact that some big drastic action was needed to get America back into the state of patriotism it used to be. I think that since the government has let the American people down before (Think Saddam Hussein), that America needed something big to get the people back on the side of the government. And this was it, supposedly. Only time will tell if this is the biggest conspiracy of all time… Andrew: Right now, I think it is just an urban legend. Yes, you get very eery results from folding that twenty dollar bill certain ways, but I really believe it's just a bunch of coincidences. However, we'll just have to wait and see. I can't say for sure that this wasn't just part of a big conspiracy and we didn't know about it, but I still believe that the $20 bill thing i just a coincidence. Besides, why would they go through all the trouble to have the $20 show this? Maybe the guy who designed the new $20 bill decided he'd leave a message buried within America's currency? As an acquaintence of mine said, "I am sure they don't fold up designs of bills before they put them on the presses. Unless, everyone was into origami..."
