Following are a few pictures from my July, 1998 trip to Malaysia to finally visit my friend Nadia.  Next to each picture is a brief description of where the picture was taken.  Click on any picture for the full-size image.
Upon arriving, I met up with Sau Chan and Nadia.  We traveled to the resort island of Langkawi, about a 50-minute flight from Kuala Lumpur.  One of the places we went to eat was a wonderful Thai restaurant (Barn Thai) tucked away in the middle of a swamp.  We had to walk of 300 meters along a planked walkway to finally reach the restaurant. This is just a close-up of our faces from the previous picture.  Left to right we have Sau Chan, Nadia, and Mike.  They made me eat very spicy food and I was still a bit hot under-the-collar after dinner!
At another sea-food reastaurant we went to, Mike was once again forced to eat spicy foods.  In this picture of Sau Chan and Mike, please note that Mike is NOT sun-burned. :) Nadia and Mutiara provide Mike (taking the picture) some memories of his trip.
Nadia and Mike took Diana and Fiona to an amusement park.  In this picture, we see Fiona on the left and Diana on the right. At the Sunway amusement park is the world's longest pedestrian wooden suspension foot-bridge.  It took a good 10 minutes to walk from one side to the other.  Be careful if you look down... It's a loooooong fall!!
There was another Thai restaurant at the Sunway Hotel (where the amusement park is located), where Nadia, Mike, and Nadia's cousin Mutiara, yet again made Mike consume foods spicier than he is accustomed to. On a day by myself, I took a tour of the historic city of Melacca.  On the way back,  I was able to capture this picture of a Palm Oil plantation.
These are the Petronas towers.  They are the world's tallest buildings, and are each 88 floors, with a walkway connecting them at the 41st and 42nd floors. This is Rafika.  She is one of Nadia's cousins, and quite entertaining, I might add...  It is amazing how easily young kids can pick up multiple languages.  I enjoyed taking "Malay lessons" from cute little Rafika.
There was one night when everyone had a craving for "Western" food.  So off to Chili's in Kuala Lumpur we went!  Left to right: Nadia, Mike, Sau Chan, and Jason. Once again, my special thanks to Keith and Mary, for allowing me to use their Mac and scanner to produce this page.
