The company conducts three types of work:
Prospect Generation, principally in the Mesozoic and Tertiary of
the Gulf Coast.
Basin or Trend Evaluation. Recent projects include
1. An evaluation of the deep basin gas potential in several Rocky
Mountain and
Ouachita foredeep basins and an exploration ranking of these basins.
2. An evaluation of shelf margin deltas and turbidite plays in a number
of selected
Oligocene and Miocene trends in south Louisiana.
3. Determination of the distribution of reef and backreef facies in several
carbonate
units across a 400-mile trend of the Gulf Basin.
4. Selection of 3-D seismic and drilling locations in several basins in
Mexico for
PEMEX.

Larry Meckel has done basin evaluation and prospect generation in almost every basin in Canada, the U.S.A., and Mexico. He has conducted field seminars and classroom courses for over 20 years to help geologists, geophysicists, and engineers, with their Exploration and Field Developments Programs. His extensive subsurface work allows him to put the course materials into a practical and useful context.
Larry started his
career as a research geologist, senior staff geologist, and manager for
Shell Development and Shell Oil Companies. In 1974 he joined with Bob Sneider
to form Sneider and Meckel Associates, an international consulting company.
In 1981 he formed his own consulting company, L.D. Meckel and Company with
offices in Houston.

Recent Clastic Models: Texas Gulf Coast
An industry standard for over 30 years.
Braided, Straight, and Meandering Channel Sands: Utah
This course focuses on the integration of outcrop and subsurface data to recognize and distinguish these important reservoir types.
Shoreline and Shallow Marine Reservoirs: Utah
Visit the classic outcrops of the Book Cliffs, Utah, to see both high stand and low stand shoreline and near shore units.
Seals, Shows, and the Evaluation of Traps
A classroom course combining capillary pressure and show data to provide you with a powerful exploration tool.
Deep Water Reservoirs: California Coast
See outstanding outcrops of most of the
deep water reservoirs we explore for.
Belize:
A Modern Carbonate Model for Exploration
A wide range of modern carbonate
facies in the world's second longest reef.
We have also scheduled in-house courses for several companies on
Shelf Margin Delta Systems A two day review of the significant new information on these important exploration objectives. Co-instructor is Harry Roberts, Coastal Studies Institute, LSU.
Shelf
Margin to Deep Water Reservoir Systems
A three day look at the Recent, late Pleistocene,
and subsurface aspects of the two very important reservoir units as we
drill deeper in existing basins and farther offshore. Co-instructor is
Harry Roberts.
