Walking the Trails

Lester E. Brooks

When winter is gone
And the bloom is on
Come walk the happy trails with us.

We'll walk the main ridge trail the rim around
And the old cowtrail about half way down.

The meadowbrook trail at the foot of the bluff,
Then, across the valley if that's not enough.

Up the river trail with trees shadows deep
To the swift turns of "Little Mountain Creek".

We'll then cross over and climb the divide
To view the wonders on the other side.

We'll return by the rim trail high, or low,
Or the honey trail where the buckbush grow.

Then, along the shore of the old bayou
Where the frogs sing high and frogs sing low.
(And the Louisiana Irises grow).

Back up the hill to where the Tall Beards bloom,
Filling the air with their pleasant perfume.

We'll set a spell and rest our weary feet
In the soft shade of a kindly mesquite.

Then, saying, "How nice to be together"
And praying for peace and joy forever.
