I remember how sad I was when the
Ford Rotunda
burned to the ground.
Our family made a trip to the Rotunda
for
every new car show and Christmas Celebration.
And how about the sleigh ride to see
Santa?
Every year Ford Motor Company would
go to
great time and expense to turn the Rotunda
into
a children's wonderland. There were
dolls of every
kind and a miniature circus. You followed
the line
around until you got to a sliegh that
took you to
see Santa. And Santa always gave you
a small gift.
In 1966 I saw a car that floated off
the
floor and was supposed to be the car
of
the future. I think it was similar to
a hovercraft
only for four or five passengers. It
was part of an
auto show. The pictures and story are
from
The
Detroit News. They have a neat section called
Rearview
Mirror on thier site which has a history of
news articles and photos.
